Other non pumpe duse mk4 TDI engines are similar. 2004-2006 mk4 pumpe duse 1.9L TDI, 2005-2006 mk5 Jetta, and 2009+ common rail 2.0L TDI use an actuator with a sensor to see rod position. A common problem with these is broken wiring at the actuator. Carefully inspect the wiring if you have a 2004+ Jetta/Golf/NB.
Mileage - the 1.9 will be better. There is a lot less emissions equipment and it is not nearly as powerful. Acceleration - The new TDI is better for many reasons. It is bigger, it has 4 valves per cylinder instead of 2, it has a high tech Common Rail fuel injection system, etc.
ALH has 90hp, BEW has 100. ALH has 155tq, BEW has 177. ALH gets bolted to a rando-fail 01M (4 speed) slushbox option. BEW gets bolted to a Jatco 09A (5 speed) slushbox option. ALH requires 505.00 oil. BEW requires 505.01 oil. BEW has a sturdier crank and rods, and camshaft driven higher pressure injectors. ALH still uses an injection pump.
LVL is laminated veneer lumber. The numbers 1.9 and 2.0 refer to the Modulus of Elasticity which is a measure of the stiffness of the beam. I would seriously doubt that there is any meaningful difference between 1.9 and 2.0 rated beams. You could believe 1.9e and 2.0e is meaningless right up to the point that your building inspector shuts down
Many thanks to all the response, I have just bought a 2009 2.0 TDi SE 140 bhp Leather interior, DRL, all the bells and whistles. Drives very much nicer and quicker than the 1.9 TDi but at a cost of more VED and MPG, was put off of the late 1.9 TDi BXE due to the reliability issues. Once again thanks for the advice. South of Boston. TDI. '97 Passat, '99.5 Golf, '02 Jetta Wagon, '15 GSW. Dec 19, 2019. #12. We have a customer who briefly owned a Audi A5 with a 2.0 gasser engine. Used a liter of oil every 1,200 miles. It was just within VW's "acceptable" limits, so they wouldn't do anything about it. He traded the car.
